History
IAC was founded in 2000 to develop a research center in Portugal for investigating consciousness. While that project is well underway, IAC is today a truly global organization with much broader objectives in education as well as research, having a permanent presence in four continents and many countries around the world.
IAC's roots date back to 1981, with the founding of the Center for Continuous Consciousness (CCC) by Waldo Vieira, MD, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The CCC conducted experimental consciousness research and periodically staged free conferences throughout Brazil. In 1986, Vieira published his treatise 'Projectiology: A Panorama of Experiences of the Consciousness outside the Human Body,' the culmination of 19 years' work. It provided a comprehensive analysis of projections, also known as out-of-body experiences, and laid the foundations upon which the science of projectiology was based.
Increased demand for the structured presentations offered by the CCC led to the founding, in January 1988, of the International Institute of Projectiology and Conscientiology (IIPC). In 1994 the IIPC expanded internationally, establishing offices in Europe and North America.
That process of global expansion ultimately led to the establishment of the International Academy of Consciousness (IAC). As mentioned above, IAC was initially formed in 2000 to develop a research center, but that objective expanded in 2002 when IAC inherited all the IIPC's European and North American educational centers. That marked the official launch of IAC in its current form as an organization focused on both research, with its European research center, and education, via its educational centers worldwide.
The current president of the IAC, Wagner Alegretti, has been a leading researcher of conscientiology and projectiology since 1982. He was a pivotal member of the CCC and a charter member of the IIPC.

Convergence on Consciousness is launched - a global, annual event dedicated to consciousness-research courses, workshops and symposia; IAC Campus, Portugal.

Journal of Conscientiology celebrates its 10-year anniversary.

The 'IAC Global Award for Scientific Contribution to Conscientiology' is established.
Inauguration of the world's first Cosmoconscientarium (specialized Cosmoconsciousness laboratory) at the IAC Campus, Portugal.

Inauguration of the world's first Projectarium (specialized OBE laboratory) at the IAC Campus, Portugal.
2005
1st International Symposium on Conscientiological Research; IAC Campus, Portugal.

Opening of an IAC branch in Sydney, Australia.
Publication of English and Spanish translations of Retrocognitions: An Investigation into Memories of Past Lives and the Period between Lives, by Wagner Alegretti
